Shakyo, Sutra Tracing (Otera-stay)

6 October, 2019

In Buddhism, shakyo (sutra tracing) has been conducted as a means of finding peace of mind since ancient times. By tracing the sutra, people prayed for the fulfillment of their wishes and to pursue mental well-being by mindfully tracing the sacred scriptures.

By straightening yourself and carefully tracing each letter on a paper by ink, it really has a calming and relaxing effect. The luxurious time to empty your mind and learn about the teachings of Buddha is a great time for introspection. You will be given a goshuin stamp as  proof of dedicating your sutra to the temple.
